How Is the Online Mantrailing Global Instructor Course Assessed?

If you’re thinking about becoming a Mantrailing instructor, you’ve probably come across plenty of courses that promise to get you qualified.

But there’s an important question you should ask before booking: How do you know that completing the course means you’re actually ready and confident in your ability to teach?

Because there’s a big difference between completing training and demonstrating competence.

The Online pathway of our Mantrailing Global Instructor Course is designed with this in mind.

What does the Mantrailing Global Online Instructor Course involve?

The Online Mantrailing Global Instructor Course combines learning, practical application and assessment. Our online instructor course allows you to enrol anytime and gives you the same certification as our in-person course, but provides the flexibility to complete it all online over a 6 month period.

To successfully complete our Online Mantrailing Instructor Course course and become a Certified Mantrailing Global Instructor, you’ll work through:

  • 16 Learning Modules

  • 150 video lessons

  • Twice monthly Coaching Calls on Zoom when you need them

  • Supporting learning materials and resources

  • 5 practical video assessments

  • A theory test

  • 2 case studies

Why Assessment Matters

Assessment isn't about making an instructor course unnecessarily difficult. It's about making sure that the person completing the course has actually developed the knowledge and practical skills required to teach pet dogs and their owners competently and effectively.

Think about it this way...

If you were learning to drive, would you expect to receive your licence simply because you'd completed your theory test without ever getting behind the steering wheel? Of course not!

You need to demonstrate that you can actually apply what you've learnt, and our Mantrailing Instructor training is no different.

What Does the Mantrailing Global Instructor Course Assess?

You'll work through our online video training, broken down into bite-sized lessons, giving you the opportunity to learn at your own pace and revisit the material throughout the 6-month course.

But completing the lessons is only one part of the journey. You'll also need to demonstrate your learning through our 3-tier assessment process, which looks at your knowledge, practical skills and ability to apply what you've learnt.

So, what does that assessment process actually involve?

  • 5 Practical Video Assessments

Our practical video assessments are designed to demonstrate numerous aspects of an instructor's role while performing individual training exercises from the Mantrailing Global Method.

During these assessments, you'll need to demonstrate areas including:

  • Health and safety

  • Clear communication

  • Appropriate and effective trail set-ups

  • Application of the Mantrailing Global training method

  • Coaching technique

  • Observation and interpretation of behaviour

  • Providing appropriate feedback

This is where theory starts to become practice, demonstrating that you can apply what you've learnt in real-life training situations.

  • Theory Test

To become a Certified Mantrailing Global Instructor, you'll also complete a theory test covering your understanding of the underpinning knowledge that you've learnt during the course that is needed as a Mantrailing Instructor.

Knowing what to do and how to do it isn't enough, an Instructor needs to understand why they're doing it.

That deeper understanding is what allows you to make informed training decisions, adapt your approach to the individual team in front of you, and importantly, explain your decisions to your clients.

When a handler understands why you're asking them to do something, they're far more likely to understand the purpose behind the training and how it benefits them and their dog and see the value in your coaching.

This is one of the things that can make a great trainer stand out from a good trainer.

  • 2 x Case Studies

Finally, you'll complete two case studies, designed to assess how you would approach and manage a Mantrailing training scenario.

These case studies allow you to demonstrate your understanding of setting up and monitoring a trail safely in both rural and urban situations, reading the dog while working and troubleshooting on the trail.

You'll need to demonstrate that you understand how to execute safe and appropriate trail set-ups, how to recognise what the dog is communicating through their behaviour and how to make appropriate decisions based on what you're seeing.

You'll also need to consider how you would respond when something changes or a problem arises, rather than simply following the original plan.

This is because it's important that a Mantrailing instructor is able to observe, assess, problem-solve and adapt throughout a trail/training session.

You Don't Know What You Don't Know

When you're learning something new, it can be surprisingly difficult to recognise the gaps in your own understanding.

You may feel confident because the information makes sense, but confidence and competence aren't always the same thing.

Our practical assessments, theory and case studies provide opportunities to demonstrate your understanding and application of Mantrailing training from numerous angles and identify areas that need more work before certifying.

That's valuable for everyone involved, as you're not just paying for content, you're paying to get expert coaching to support you to be ready to begin teaching for real.

A Certificate Should be earned, not given

Anyone can call themselves a Mantrailing Instructor. But when you're investing your time, money and energy into becoming an instructor, you want to know that the certification you earn actually means something.

You want to know that when you complete your training, you're genuinely ready to teach.

You want the confidence to stand in front of a dog and handler team, understand what you're seeing, explain your decisions, coach your clients effectively and know what to do when things don't go according to plan.

That's why our Certified Instructor title isn't simply handed out when you reach the end of the course. It's earned.

Throughout the Mantrailing Global Instructor Course, you're given the opportunity to develop your knowledge, put that knowledge into practice and demonstrate your understanding through practical assessments, theory and case studies.

You're not simply ticking off lessons. You're developing the ability to understand the what, the how and the why, apply that knowledge in real training situations and make informed decisions as an instructor.

And that's what we believe a certification should represent. Not simply that you completed a course. That you've demonstrated what you've learnt and developed the skills needed to begin teaching.

So, if you're ready to take the next step and become a Mantrailing Instructor, choose a course that doesn't just tell you what you need to know. Choose one that gives you the opportunity to demonstrate that you do.

Our Certified Mantrailing Instructor title isn't handed out. It's earned.
