How to Become a Mantrailing Instructor
Have you been thinking about turning your passion for Mantrailing into a profession?
Perhaps you've been Mantrailing with your own dog for a while and love it so much that you've started wondering what it would be like to teach other people
Or maybe you're already working with dogs and looking for something new to add to your existing business.
But how do you actually become a Mantrailing Instructor?
Let's take a look.

What Does a Mantrailing Instructor Actually Do?
Before thinking about becoming an Instructor, it's worth understanding what the role actually involves.
A Mantrailing Instructor isn't simply someone who enjoys Mantrailing. Your job as an Instructor is to help other people and their dogs learn. That means understanding how to teach the skills involved and set up effective trails, interpret dog body language, troubleshoot problems and coach your clients through their individual Mantrailing journey.
Once certifying, a Mantrailing Global Instructor will be able to:
Offer Introduction workshops for people completely new to Mantrailing.
Run regular progression sessions for existing clients.
Offer one-off Mantrailing workshops.
Work towards MTG Dog & Handler/ Trail Layer Skills up badges with clients.
Help clients work towards official MTG assessments.
Have the option to become a Mantrailing Global Assessor through an additional course. Once you've gained six months' experience as a Mantrailing Instructor, you can complete the Assessor Course and add Mantrailing Assessments as an additional service and income stream to your business.
Join the Guild, our optional online Mantrailing Instructor Development membership, to continue to receive support and mentorship from Mantrailing Global.
Do You Need to Be a Dog Trainer to Become a Mantrailing Instructor?
You don't necessarily need to already be a dog trainer, but experience working with dogs is important.
Mantrailing Global asks applicants to have a professional background working with dogs, although applications are reviewed individually and you're encouraged to apply even if this isn't currently the case.
You also need to enjoy working with people, have enthusiasm for learning and be prepared to work outdoors in all sorts of weather.
Do You Need Mantrailing Experience First?
Although our Instructor course gives you the knowledge and practical skil to start teaching Mantrailing as a dog sport, If you're completely new to Mantrailing, we strongly recommend to gain as much hands-on Mantrailing experience as possible before becoming an Instructor.
This practical expierence gives you the opportunity to experience Mantrailing from the handler's perspective, see how sessions are set up and run, develop confidence in your practical skills and understand what your future clients will experience.
You can gain experience by training in person with a Mantrailing Global Instructor at a session local to you , or through the Online Mantrailing Club where you will be mentored by Lisa, Founder of Mantrailing Global.
If you think about it, it makes sense. How can you effectively teach something if you've never experienced what it's like to learn it yourself?

Online Mantrailing Instructor Course
Our online pathway means your learning takes place through a dedicated online classroom. If you prefer an immersive learning environment with face-to-face teaching, the in-person Mantrailing Instructor Course offers an intensive five-day learning experience in a small group setting.

Step three: Do I need to complete assessments to become a Mantrailing Global Instructor?
Yes! The Final step before becoming an Instructor is to successfully pass the assessment process. Becoming a Mantrailing Instructor isn't simply a case of watching the training and receiving a certificate. You have to demonstrate what you've learnt.
The assessment process includes:
Online practical video assessments.
A theory test.
Two case studies.
You can find out more about our assessment process HERE. Assessment is an important part of becoming an Instructor because we believe that completing training is one thing, but demonstrating that you understand it and can apply it is another.
The Mantrailing Global Instructor course isn't an attend only course. Successfully passing our instructor course is recognition that you've completed the training and demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to lead and teach others.
Our certification is earned, not given!

What Happens If You Don't Pass?
Assessments can feel daunting, particularly when you're working towards something you're genuinely invested in.
Mantrailing Global offers a 100% free resit guarantee, meaning that if you don't pass any part of the course assessment, you can resit it an additional two times without paying any additional fees.
The aim is to make sure you have the opportunity to reach the required standard, rather than simply moving you through because you've completed the course.
